DESCRIPTION:This is a reminder that our AGM will be held on 26th November. This will start at 7.30pm and will be held at Portchester Parish Hall.  The evening will consist of a presentation of our Annual Report and announcements on successful appointments\, followed by an opportunity to network and celebrate another year with each other\, enjoy some refreshments and\, of course\, a festive raffle. \nAs mentioned at our last member’s meeting\, we truly value the support of every volunteer who helps us to have a successful association\, and we would encourage everyone to consider whether they could help support via one of the available roles. \nAppointed Roles Available: \n·       Asian Hornet Coordinator – key contact for NBU and AH verifiers \n·       Communications Officer – posting/scheduling social media posts etc. \n·       Swarms Coordinator – key contact for swarm notifications and collectors \n·       Fort Cumberland Apiary Manager – ideally someone who already has hives on site \nWe are keen to emphasise that these roles are not onerous\, and in many cases are coordination roles\, where you act as the key contact point for receiving and disseminating information. These roles do not require you to attend committee meetings unless you wish to\, updates to the committee can be sent via email. \nElectable Roles Available: \n·       Trustees (with or without portfolio) \nThis is a role as a charity trustee\, which therefore requires attendance of committee meetings (4th Thurs of month)\, and take shared responsibility for the decisions made about the association. DESCRIPTION:Title:  Making Mead\nDate & Time: 22nd October\, 7:30 PM \nLocation: Portchester Parish Hall \nGuest Speaker: David Sandwell\, Judge at the Denmead Show \nBrief Description: David Sandwell is a well-known beekeeper from Waterlooville and a respected Honey Judge\, having judged many entries\, including at the South of England Show. David began beekeeping in 1980 with just one hive in his garden to improve pollination for his fruit trees and beans. Over time\, he moved to a vineyard and set up an out apiary\, gradually increasing his number of hives. To promote his honey sales\, David began showing his honey and has since earned over 600 prize cards. His hive count has now grown to 50+ colonies. \nDavid worked full-time as a Chartered Quality Professional with a Packaging Diploma. About 10 years ago\, he was invited to judge at a local honey show\, and since then\, requests for his judging services have grown significantly. In addition to honey judging\, David also speaks on “Mead Making” and “Ways in Which Honey Can Be Used with Different Types of Food.” Now retired\, he maintains 20 colonies of bees and is still frequently consulted for his extensive knowledge and experience in beekeeping. \nOpen to: Free for members

Climate change is exacerbating the situation across the Channel and we have no way of knowing whether the recent surge in Asian hornet nest numbers in north-west France and Belgium will drop back even if the weather returns to more normal patterns. DESCRIPTION:Our last member’s meeting for 2023 will be held at Portchester Parish Hall on Tuesday 28th November (7.30pm start).  \nAt this meeting we will be holding our Charity EGM\, where we will announce those who have been elected/appointed to roles within our new charitable (CIO) status and officially closing the previous charity.  \nThis is a great opportunity to enjoy a festive tipple and mince pies\, whilst sharing your experience of this year’s season with your fellow beekeepers.
