A rare opportunity to take part in a community project has arisen. The “ Observation Hive at Cumberland House Natural History Museum” is in need of an Assistant Manager of the Hive.PDBKA is part of the “Hive Project” in partnership with The Portsmouth City Council Museum Service which is ongoing at Cumberland House and provides a live observation hive for the benefit of visitors to the museum.

The current manager, Graham Cook, is experienced in maintaining the hive and an estimate of two visits per month is looked for to help maintain the colony.

A beekeeper, who is a member of PDBKA, is sought to assist the current hive manager in ensuring that the hive is always in a good display condition for members of the public, including children, to enjoy. This may involve replacing/renewing the colony from time to time in order to keep it healthy and “queen right”. A convenient starting date would be 1st March 2022.
